GUITAR WOODS: KOA
Koa (Acacia Koa) is a Hawaian wood of which leaves were used in the past centuries as a medicine for their healing properties. The tree reaches a height of 20/25mt and a diameter of about 1mt. Weight is about 550kg/mt3.
Koa is a protected wood and a precious wood, despite the fact that the tree grows pretty fast reaching a remarkable height in the first 5 years.
Koa is mostly used in acoustic guitar making for the back and the sides, and in electric guitar construction is used to build wonderful bodies due to its exceptional figure.
Like mahogany, Koa delivers a neutral and warm tone and can also be used as a top for guitar and top plate for basses.
