GUITAR WOODS: ZEBRAWOOD

Guitar woods zebrawood

Zebrawood (Microberlinia brazzavillensis) is a decorative wood originating from two different species, both growing in Africa in the Gabon and Cameroon area.

Quarter sawn the hardwood displays a gold yellow colour with parallel and regular dark brown stripes.
The tree reaches to a maximum height of about 45 mt and a diameter of 1.5 mt. Weight is about 740kg/mt3.

Zebrawood is an extremely stiff wood featuring a soft and hard alternating grain which makes it more difficult to craft compared to other woods with more even grain structure. It's used for building neck through basses top plates to enhance fundamental harmonic definition. If well seasoned it will also deliver a nice edge on the top end.

Just cut, it delivers a very particular smell not everyone likes.
